100th Year of Jacques Cousteau!
Whole Foods Café Gallery
Dec. 14, 2011 – January 12, 2012
Submitted by Ms. Marie Lacour
Elementary Art Teacher
The children at the Reeves School read “The Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau” by Dan Yaccarino and viewed the film clip “100th Year of Jacques Cousteau” from his web site www.jacquescousteau.com. We discussed what SCUBA (Self Contained Under Water Breathing Apparatus) means and the significance of Cousteau’s invention. Students were offered colored markers, crayons and paint to afford them more freedom of choice and practice in selecting the medium that best expresses their thoughts. The result is often work dense with meaning-making by the artist. Selected students had their artwork displayed at Whole Foods Cafe Gallery.
