3/4/10 Smooth Opening at WMHS
This morning, I arrived at Woburn Memorial High School during the time that students were arriving. I witnessed an impressive team implementing the procedures for entering the building this morning. WMHS staff members worked alongside the Woburn Police Department and the regional School Threat Assessment Response System (STARS) to make sure that today's "controlled entry" was successful. WMHS students entered in an orderly and respectful manner. There was no confusion, and there was no delay in starting the school day. While law enforcement officials continue their investigation of the low-level threat, our staff and students are following their regular schedules.
I want to express my thanks to Principal Joseph Finigan, the Woburn Police Department, the STARS team, and the staff and students of Woburn Memorial High School for their extraordinary efforts. The number of people that came together on short notice and the resources that were available to us helped make us all feel more secure. While these situations can be difficult to manage, we are very fortunate to have so many people who care about keeping students safe.
