What’s Happening @ the Woburn Public Library

The Woburn Public Library Children’s Room is delighted to invite young and old to meet author Laurie Isop in the Study Hall on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, 3:30—4:30 p.m.

Laurie Isop is the recent winner of the Cheerios New Author contest, with her book, “How Do You Hug a Porcupine?” This book, illustrated by Gwen Millward, tells the reader how easy it is to hug animals…except for the porcupine: “He wears a coat of thorny quills. / To hug this one will take some skills!” Ms. Isop will read the book aloud, then talk with those present and answer questions. She will also sell and sign copies of her book. Children ages 4 and older will enjoy hearing about that porcupine and meeting the author herself.

This event is handicapped accessible.  If accommodations are required, please call the library at 781-937-0405 for further information.

Can/Plastic Bottle Drive

I am very pleased to kick off our school-wide community service activity.  From October 11th to December 16th, the students are invited to bring in recyclable cans and plastic bottles.  The Linscott-Rumford students brought in hundreds of cans and bottles last week but many of them came from out of state and were returned. Please to bring in CLEANED, recyclable cans and plastic bottles with MA redemption stamped on them.

The money raised from this can drive will be donated to the local Woburn charities such as the Woburn Boys and Girls Club, the Woburn Council of Social Concern, and others. The class that collects the most cans will receive a pizza party! Students can get involved at home by taking responsibility for rinsing out the cans and bottles before placing them in a bag to bring to school. This will help them feel a sense of ownership and participation in this project. Each can returned will have a value of 2 minutes toward Y.E.S. hours. Our school goal is to raise at least $750.00
