Linscott/Rumford PTO: Appliance/CRT/Electronics Recycling Day

@ Spence Farm on Saturday November 19th (9:00 am -1:00 pm)

Wondering what to do with that old television, computer monitor or appliance that is broken, unwanted or unused and just taking up space

Paul Medeiros has found and is working with a Massachusetts company that will collect these items at drop off sites set up throughout Woburn at various times throughout the year. This is an excellent opportunity to recycle these items at a minimal cost compared to the high cost associated with curbside appliance recycling programs and will also be a fundraiser for local organizations that will sponsor these events. Another good thing and possibly the best part of this program is that it is open to residents from any and all communities, not just Woburn, as well as any and all business entities. With your help these collections have raised over $90,000 dollars for local Woburn organizations with a portion going to the Woburn High School scholarship fund in a bit more than 3 years! So clean out those basements, attics, garages and warehouses and bring your items down!

This collection will be held on Saturday, November 19th from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. at Woburn’s Spence Farm located at 41 Wyman Street, in Woburn benefitting the Linscott/Rumford PTO projects and programs. A portion of the proceeds will be going towards the scholarship fund for a Woburn High School graduating senior that will be continuing their education in the field of environmental education.

This collection is the last one until March.

The prices are as follows:
Waste Mgmt curbside Collection Drop off Collection
Monitor/Laptop- $25.00 $10.00
Television- $25.00 $20.00
Refrigerator- $20.00 $10.00
Water Cooler- $20.00 $10.00
Air Conditioner- $20.00 $10.00
Freezer- $20.00 $10.00
Dehumidifier- $20.00 $10.00
Stove/Washer/Dryer- $13.00 $10.00
Water Heater- $13.00 $10.00
Dishwasher- $13.00 $10.00

Want to recycle for reuse or salvage and don't like to throw away old, usable or even unusable equipment? Bring it to the event: For $1.00 each we will take the following: computers, electronic office equipment such as calculators, typewriters, fax/copy machines, printers, telephones, all consumer electronics (excluding televisions) such as cameras, video/audio/DVD/VCR, microwaves and sink disposal units.

Additionally, we will take and recycle or salvage the following in any quantity for a voluntary donation: computer parts and accessories, plugs, wires, drives, parts of computers, *cell phones*, video games as well as parts and accessories or plugs and wires, DVD’s, CD’s and VHS tapes.

Note: We will also be taking old cell phones and separating them for soldiers.

Schools Closed on Friday, November 11 in Honor of Veterans’ Day

All schools will be closed on Friday, November 11 as the City of Woburn and the nation honors the brave men and women who have served our country. Veterans' Day ceremonies are taking place in our schools as our students learn about what it means to be a veteran. Veterans' Agent Larry Giuseppe has helped to arrange for guest speakers in our schools so that our students can hear the stories of those who have served. Please take some time on Friday to honor our veterans.

The picture on this posting includes a painting of the service emblems from various armed services. This painting was part of a mural project completed at the Veterans' Center in Woburn. A large American flag is also part of the the project.  The painting was done by two of our excellent Woburn Memorial High School students, Laura Standley and Mikaela Holt. We thank them for completing this wonderful community service project.
