School-Issued Chromebooks – Grade 6-12
All students in grades 6-12 are provided a Chromebook for school use. This device should travel between home and school for student use in class and at home. Click HERE for Chromebook information.
Damaged or Non-Working Devices
Bring device along with signed Return Form to the Technology Department at located in the Administrative Offices Wing of the Joyce Middle School at 55 Locust St., Woburn, MA any weekday from 8:00am – 4:00pm. No appointment is necessary. You may also contact us at help@woburnps.com
Optional Insurance
As with the assignment of textbooks, families are financially responsible for the replacement or repair cost of the school-issued Chromebook should it become damaged, lost, or stolen. Parents/Caregivers have the option to purchase insurance for $28 per device per year. This insurance covers any accidental damage with no deductible.
If families do NOT purchase insurance, they will be responsible for the cost of replacement parts.
Common repairs include:
- Screen replacement – $35
- Keyboard replacement – $40
- Liquid damage/Motherboard replacement – $150.
- If the device is lost, full replacement – $250.
Enrollment for insurance is currently CLOSED.
If you are a newly enrolled student and you would like to purchse insurance, please email help@woburnps.com
- Coverage can ONLY be purchased for newly issued devices, NOT after a device is damaged
- Covers ALL accidental damage (liquids damage, screen breaks/cracks, etc.); No deductible!
Technical Support
Families must report any damage or malfunctions immediately to the Technology Department at help@woburnps.com
Damaged devices must be returned to the Technology Office located at 55 Locust St. The office is open from 8:00am – 4:00pm weekdays. A replacement device will be issued and returned device will be processed for repair.
Replacement Charger
Compatible chargers can be ordered HERE.
Missing chargers will not be replaced by Woburn Public Schools. If a device is returned without a charger, families will be invoiced for the cost of replacing it.
Device Security
Both on premises and at home when using school-issued devices / accounts, content is filtered and monitored as required by the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). Woburn Public Schools is required by CIPA to block access to inappropriate content and monitor internet use by minors. Parents should monitor student device use and can check student browsing history at any time by following steps:
- From the top right corner of the Chrome browser, click the 3 vertical dots
- Choose “History” -> “History”
Student devices are configured to prevent deletion of browsing history.
